Yesterday, the Cambodian National Police and the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Joint Command continued to carry out special operations to combat telecommunications network fraud in Poipet City, carrying out surprise inspections at three key sites, and seizing computers and a large number of mobile phone devices suspected of being used for cyber fraud activities in one of the hotels.
The operation was led by Lieutenant General Mang Sotya, Deputy Director-General of the National Police. Prak Poli, Deputy Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province, Samrit Sokhon, Deputy Prosecutor of the Provincial Court, as well as the provincial police, provincial gendarmerie and Poipet City Government, jointly participated in the comprehensive investigation of three residences and hotels in Poipet City.
The first inspection site is a 16-room two-storey house in the village of Samaki Meanchey in the Okrov subdistrict of Poipet.Law enforcement officers found 25 Indonesian nationals at the scene, including 2 women.Upon inspection, no evidence of fraudulent activity was found on the scene.
The second inspection site is located in a two-storey house with 25 rooms and 15 people of different nationalities in Balile 2 village, Poipet subdistrict.Joint law enforcement officials also found no evidence of cyber fraud, and all foreigners have been handed over to immigration authorities for further verification of identity and related procedures. A third operation began at 11 a.m., with law enforcement inspecting the Wente Moe Ta Chiev Tien, located at 1 Kbalspin village in the Okrov subdivision.The hotel has 11 floors, 63 rooms, a total of 66 residents on site, from 10 different countries, including 9 women.
During the operation, law enforcement officers seized 1 laptop and 62 mobile phones suspected of being used to carry out cyber fraud activities, and seized them in accordance with the law. The relevant personnel and physical evidence were handed over to the professional department of the National Police General Administration for further investigation and handling.
